BDO’s Noel Clehane to Chair the European Services Forum

03 November 2017

BDO’s Noel Clehane has been appointed Chairman of the European Services Forum (ESF) effective today. Taking over from Sir Thomas Harris, he will chair a network of representatives from the European services sector committed to actively promoting the liberalisation of international trade and investment in services.

Speaking ahead of ESF’s high-level event on Trade in Services (13 October) with speakers including EU Trade Commissioner Cecilia Malmström, WTO Deputy Director General Karl Brauner and MEP Marietje Schaake, Noel said:

“I am delighted to take on the Chairmanship of the European Services Forum at a time when the European Commission is putting trade at the centre of its agenda. Services account for 70% of world GDP and account for over half of EU exports by value. As a representative of a global professional services network with its Global Office situated in Brussels,  I will be working with the ESF to ensure services receive the priority they deserve, for the benefit of businesses and services-based economies across the world.”

Martin van Roekel, Global CEO, BDO said:

“I am delighted that the ESF has appointed Noel as its new chairman. BDO as a global professional services provider recognises the importance of services in modern economies and particularly in Europe. We support the work of the ESF in raising awareness of the importance of trade in services and in highlighting obstacles such as issues around cross-border data flows and worker mobility”.
